“This is the story of Val and Clare: a mother and a daughter. After the tragic death of her eldest child, Val left her kids and family behind and escaped into the Colombian jungle. Only 11 at the time, this film’s director Clare Weiskopf couldn’t understand what her mother was looking for. Thirty years later, when she becomes pregnant, Clare decides to confront her mother, heal the wounds of the past, and try to define motherhood on her own terms.

Together they go on an intimate journey exploring the boundaries between responsibility and freedom, with all the guilt and sacrifice they entail. What makes someone a good mother?”

Clare Weiskopf director of the film will be answering questions after the screening in Trowbridge via Skype from Colombia.

After the success of our very first film season during Autumn and Winter 2017, we continue celebrating the diverse communities in Trowbridge and surrounding areas through film. This will be in Spring and early Summer 2018 with a second season of our Community Cinema programme curated by Lorena Pino. This time we are exploring the central topic of motherhood - as a cycle in different stages - with three triple F-Rated films. That means they are directed by women, written by women and portray women on screen in their own right!
