We are starting our first season of films with two F- Rated* productions that have not been screened in the English Southwest. Two talented Latin American directors: Mariana Vega Oroza from Perú and Alejandra Jiménez from Colombia -based in London for over 20 years- present their latest productions. They bravely followed the stories of people who despite their motor disabilities have succeeded… achieving their goals against all odds!

Director: Alejandra Jiménez, UK/Colombia, 2016, 22 mins, U, F-Rated
(in Spanish with English subtitles) Documentary, Drama, Animation
With: Juan Botero Bernal, Jorge Botero Bernal

Juan's Claws is a short documentary about the determination of a man, a friend, and his battle with an inherited disease -Friedreich’s Ataxia - that debilitates all muscles in the body.
Working in between the genre of observational documentary and personal cinema, it follows Juan’s journey to the middle of the jungle along the Don Diego River in the Sierra Nevada, Santa Marta – Colombia, his dream for his fortieth birthday celebration. He wanted to revisit his brother small hut hidden in an isolated area of the region and ride unaided along the small trails in his all-terrain wheelchair. Were his expectations fulfilled?
Official selection of Auckland Film Festival, Docs Without Border Festival / Human Spirit Short; Exceptional Merit for Viewer Impact: Content/Message Delivery. Award of Recognition: Disability Issues, Best Short Competition.

Alejandra Jiménez is a Colombian director, whose work moves between fiction and documentary with a mix media approach that merges film, photography and animation.
