Artist Café news from July 2017
Town Hall Arts Artists' Meeting - First Thursdays
Good afternoon everyone and thanks for those that could join us yesterday for our regular First Thursday Artists' cafe on 6 July 2017.
We started off by reminding everyone that there is no Artists' Café next month as the holiday season is upon us, so the next Artist’s Café will be 7 September 2017.
Town Hall Arts Open 2017 winners have been announced, please do come in and see the winners work as well as the rest of the exhibition if you haven’t already. Don’t forget to vote for your favourite work – the People’s Choice Award will be presented on at 1.30pm on 2 September 2017 (the last day of the exhibition). We will have a chance to meet up and drink wine again that day so put a note in your diaries.
Trowbridge Museum are planning a fundraising auction, where they would like to sell artists work to raise money towards their expansion plans. As artists you can nominate the price you would like to receive for your work and then the museum will receive any amount over that for their funds. Please submit images to the museum before the end of July.
The Art Auction takes place on 8 September 2017 at 6pm – more details on Trowbridge Museum website. Deadline for submissions: end of July 2017.
Thursday 13 July from 5.30 Christ Lethbridge at Bath Artist Studios will be hosting a Pot Luck Supper to celebrate our artist Residency Swap between the two organisations. Please do come along to meet other artists. The instructions are to bring a bottle and something edible! Please do let Chris know if you are going to attend email@example.com
We have 2 desks in our studios that are surplus to requirements – if anyone wants to make use of them can they let us know?
The volunteer-led Community Hub in the Shires is now open and there are 13 volunteer groups represented. Please do call in to find out what is happening around Wiltshire, it is in the Shires Shopping Centre opposite Holland and Barrett.
We introduced Andrea Wright who is our artist in Residence, based in the cells this summer. She will be exploring her practice and also working up to a final exhibition to coincide with e next Explore Art Trowbridge (EAT) event in September. In turn that will coincide with Heritage Weekend in Trowbridge: 9-10 September 2017. Andrea has an Instagram account, so please do follow her progress @thecellsresidency
This led to a general discussion about artist Residencies and we suggested that artists who are interested keep their eyes out for opportunities on the Arts Council England (ACE) website
Julie Smith is Artist in Residence at the Semantic Archive funded by Collecting Cultures in Chippenham.
The Arts in Wiltshire website is a great resource for artists and has up to date news and opportunities. Several of our artists at Artist’s café had found paid commissions through the site which is administered by Meril Morgan.
