12 - 2pm: Exhibition launch of Museum Box Project and Library of Pilgrimages
Join us for the launch of two related but separate exhibitions from Space Place Practice, a collective group of multidisciplinary practitioners who share an interest in researching the wider aspects of ‘landscape’.
Our Main Gallery will showcase their Museum Box Project from 2012 in which each member of the group created new artworks from the starting point of a disused Natural History Museum storage box.
That portable exhibition encouraged the group to develop the Library of Pilgrimages which will be on show in our Ground Floor Gallery.
The exhibition in our basement cells will reveal the creative results of the time our invited Artist in Residence, Andrea Wrighty, has spent in the space from June to September 2017.
The Shires Shopping Centre, Court Street, Trowbridge, BA14 8AT
10am - 1pm: Big Craft Day demonstrations
In connection with our biennial West of England Festival of Textiles (WEFT), which runs from 26 August to 18 November 2017, Trowbridge Museum is putting on a day of demonstrations celebrating the craft tradition in the west of England. Our WEFT artists will be showcasing many of the once fashionable crafts such as tatting, needle lace, knotting - and much more. Come and have a go yourself and make your own knotted animal or try your hand at the Dorset Button technique. Check our website for more details.
10am – 1pm: Visit Top Floor of Home Mills
This is a great opportunity to visit the third floor of Home Mills, above the museum, and find out about Trowbridge Museum’s exciting plans to expand into this amazing space. In the days of Samuel Salter and Co. this room was full of noisy spinning machines, now it is a wonderful light and airy space with panoramic views over Trowbridge, giving you a glimpse of the history and heritage of the town’s industrial past.
