Town Hall Open 2017
June 30, 2017 @ 10:00 AM
30 June - 2 September
Evening View: Friday 30 June 5:30pm - 7:30pm
Town Hall Arts first annual Open Exhibition invited artists at all stages of their careers, working in any contemporary art media, to submit recent work for exhibition at Trowbridge Town Hall. On display throughout the Town Hall are the successful works of art, carefully chosen by a panel of judges: led by Peter Riley, curator of the Young Gallery in Salisbury, Wiltshire, and members of the Town Hall Arts team.
For the first time, our selected Open 2017 offers an incredible mixture of emerging artists and established names, in the very heart of Trowbridge. This exciting, diverse exhibition, varies in medium from sculpture, installation, painting and photography.
As part of our Arts Open process we offered prizes to help support our local and national artists. First and Second Prizes have now been awarded and the winning artists will be invited to exhibit in our main gallery in January 2018.
- First Prize £500 plus a place as the featured artist in an exhibition at Town Hall Arts in January 2018 – Awarded to Ali Brown.
- Second Prize 500 postcards sponsored by Avon Printing Services, plus a place as a supporting artist in an exhibition at Town Hall Arts in January 2018 – Awarded to Nick Andrew.
- The People’s Choice Prize £250 – To be announced on Saturday 2nd September at 1.30 pm.
- Judges Prize- This was an extra prize, created to allow our guest judge to award a prize to commend work for an exhibition at Town Hall Arts – Awarded to Robin Shelton.
The 41 artists represents those right at the beginning of their careers as well as those who are well-established. We hope you find a piece you enjoy from the wide works. We invite members of the public to vote for their favourite in our Peoples Choice by using the voting postcards provided in the galleries. The winner will be announced at 1.30pm on 2nd September, the final day of the exhibition. Voting closes at 4pm on Friday 1 September.
Most works are for sale, giving you the opportunity to own original artworks by new and leading artists. Not only does this support the artist but in return, enables Town Hall Arts to continue providing for the community, as a beacon of arts, culture and heritage learning.
