Scrumpy and Western The Life and Times of Adge Cutler
March 07, 2015 @ 8:00 PM
Price: £8 (Conc: £7)
Company: Hooligan Theatre
One evening in November 1967 a new musical form was revealed to the world in a pub in North Somerset. EMI travelled from Abbey Road Studios where the Beatles were recording to capture the unique sound of the Adge Cutler and the Wurzels, the first, and to this day the only, Scrumpy and Western band, performing in front of their loyal, excited and cider loving fans. This show takes you back to that momentous night.
'Scrumpy and Western' is a new play with songs by Tom Henry and Shaun McCarthy. It explores and dramatically imagines events in Adge's life that inspired his first album and offers a glimpse into the world in which he wrote his classic songs, almost fifty years ago. This show is not a tribute band of Wurzel look-alikes playing Adge's music note for note: it poses serious questions such 'What will happen when the Common Market Comes to Stanton Drew' and why exactly is it that 'Thee Cassent Kill Cooch.'
This is a script in hand performance of a new work, a chance to see a show with live music about a local hero, being developed for production in Adge's beloved Somerset.
This event will now be presented on the Ground Floor, not the first floor as previosly advertised.
